Rosalio Hernandez Garcia, 13, and his sister Esperansa Hernandez Garcia, 12, were home alone with their two younger siblings when a man began knocking on their door and ringing the door bell. After several minutes, Esperansa saw the man in the backyard of their home. Esperansa woke her sleeping brother, Rosalio, who immediately called his parents and then 911.
“Both of these children stayed calm under extremely stressful circumstances,” said Surprise Police Chief Mike Frazier. “Because they were so helpful in providing the crucial information our officers needed, we were able to find and arrest the suspect.”
Mayor Sharon Wolcott joined Chief Frazier in presenting the brother and sister team a certificate of recognition and a letter of appreciation.
“The bravery these young people showed while trying to protect themselves and their younger siblings from harm is truly commendable,” said Mayor Sharon Wolcott. “Their quick thinking and quick actions assisted the police department in keeping our entire community safe.”
